Do What You Can: The Beach Relief Story
Beach Relief began in 2018, when daily walks along the Florida coast opened founder Tenille's eyes to the amount of trash washing in with the waves. What started as small beach cleanups soon became a mission to take real action against plastic pollution.
Since then, Beach Relief has participated in over 1,500 cleanups across Canada, the United States, the Bahamas, Honduras, and Mexico — including a seven-week expedition to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch with The Ocean Cleanup, and work with the Rozalia Project.
Now based in Canada, Beach Relief organizes cleanups, community events, and speaking engagements that go beyond picking up trash. Tenille works directly with communities to build awareness about plastic pollution and help people make more conscious choices about what they buy and how they live, because real change starts before the plastic ever hits the ground.

Tenille Maher is the founder of Beach Relief and is dedicated to community cleanups and ocean health education. Her hands-on work includes leading and participating in cleanups all over the world, on land and at sea. Beyond cleanups, Tenille runs workshops, speaking engagements, community events, and actively seeks out upcycled and sustainable alternatives to everyday products. Her philosophy is simple: do what you can.
